After a few discussions it became clear to me that the cover design needed to be somewhat the reverse of a typical cover; busy, complicated and telling a story in itself. Supplied with photography
of actual assets most important to the story, I began to construct a layout that could hold all these elements and express the emotions of the topics covered.

Starting with the plan of Pentonville Prison, which I used as a visual reference to the mental struggle- three separate areas of thought, I began to build a story with the main character's eye as the focal point. Prison bars are reflected in the eye as blood-like wine seeps into the chalice from the church.

Others assets surround the eye, with the church gates ushering in the viewer, but is it towards the wine, the prison bars reflected or the church itself?

Each area was hand-drawn to create the lithograph type illustration relevant to the decade.
This was then scanned into Photoshop to adjust levels and add the red. Once signed off by the client various sizes were created for submitting to Amazon for download and hard-copy purchase.
